Craps Rules : How to Play and Craps Rules for Beginners

Craps is one of the world's most popular casino games, and craps tables can be found in both online and in-house casino settings worldwide. It is important for players to understand the rules for playing craps in order to be successful at the game. Online craps rules and in-house craps rules are almost always the same.

Common Bet Types

Craps is a dice game that relies on the player getting certain results. The shooter - or the person rolling the dice - is making an attempt to get points by rolling specific numbers. Craps rules state that if the shooter rolls two, three, nine, seven, or 11 then the round is automatically over. If the shooter rolls any other number, that number becomes the point and the shooter continues to roll until he hits the point again or rolls a seven. Commonly, players bet the Pass Line or Don't Pass Line bets. Pass Line bets win on seven and 11, and also on the point if the shooter rolls the point again before rolling a seven. The Don't Pass Line bet is the exact opposite according to the rules of craps, except that the number 12 is often considered a tie.

Other Bet Types

Rules of craps also allow for Field bets, Place bets, and Hardway bets as the player sees fit. The craps rules for Field bets state that anything rolled from five to eight will win the bet - any other number loses. For Place bets, the player tries to roll either a Big Six or Big Eight. This is a very uncommon bet because it is difficult to win and does not pay as well as a Field bet. Casino craps rules also allow for the Hardway bet, which states that a number will be rolled as doubles before it is rolled any other way. For instance, if a player bets 10, they must roll a five and five combination before they roll a six and four or seven and three.

The rules of craps are relatively simple to understand. Knowing what certain bets are and how the gameplay works can often mean the difference between winning and losing.
